She is amazing and manages to walk that line between the popular/provocative and the researched/informed with grace and poise and humour…

I’m @botanical_ryan on Instagram. Here are some of my recent posts.

Well isn't this a pleasant surprise! One of my indoor succulents is blooming for the first time in... 5 years or something? If you're looking at this flower and thinking "by Jove, that looks suspiciously like Ohio Spiderwort (Tradescantia ohiens
I found a Maple tree bleeding beads of liquid sunlight; last year's hot summer rays sweetly condensed, refracting this day's warming spring beams in double brightness.

I learned that in the Ojibwe language, there is a 5th season in-between winter (
Look who's waking up. On this 2nd day of March, 2021, I present some harbingers of spring. Have you seen any?

Non natives like snowdrops and garden iris are often at odds with native species in their phenology (seasonal behaviours), which makes sens
Proud to be a #seedsitter for #projectswallowtail ! Right now it's a waiting game, but in a couple of months, it's going to be SO exciting to see which native plants are going to grow up in these trays. Questions? Want to join the party?? Just ask,
I came across a cemetery where the bodies were being turning into other things: walls and roofs, floors and doors. The bodies were beautiful. How old were they when they died?

Season's greetings and happy holidays from some of my non-human friends: torpid Tulip Tree and her crown-shaped cones; snow-capped containers of peaceful perennials; sleepy seed trays; hopping House Sparrows; merry Maples; scaley Cedars and mousey M
Behold Lulu: the festive, solstice, cruelty-free lemon tree 🍋

There are 10 ornaments on Lulu as part of her holiday drag decor: if you can find and name them all... then you clearly needed to take that break from your day for a merry puzzle 🤓

So excited to have found this plant. There's a pretty special feeling when you actually find a particular species for the first time and in an unfamiliar location. Hard to describe, but joy and a rush of adrenaline are definitely part of it. Highly r
The part of this that I can't share with you, but which is really the best part, is the fragrance of the flower. It's not really like the aroma of a citrus fruit, maybe a little like the oils in orange zest, but way sweeter and lighter, bright, sharp
My nano aquarium is 3.5 years old now and the ecology in this tank is starting to get weird.

The tank got a bit of green hair algae a few months ago which was a problem of underlying nutrient imbalances. I helped shift that balance by adding nutri
